Another Win over Tir na nOg Keeps Sarsfields 6th in League

Final Score: Sarsfields 3-13 Tir na nOg 0-9

Friday night was to be Sarsfields’ sixth league game at home against the Portadown club on a warm, calm Friday night. Tir Na nOg’s full forward line started with four points early in the opening minutes, however with three of their players picking up minor injuries Sarsfields’ Colin Stevenson, Chris McGaughey and Paul McGeown were soon to level the score line at 0-4 each after the first fifteen minutes. Strong midfield leadership from the nOgs helped forward Paudi Judge add two more points and with both goalkeepers saving shots on target the first half ended with the away team ahead Sarsfields 0-5 Tir na nOg 0-7.

With Tir na nOg hungry for their first league victory of the year, the second half proved to be competed well. Johnny Reynolds opened the scoring with a point from play and with Thomas McAlinden finding better form, the Hoops men managed to score 1-5 before the Ballyoran men could respond. Armagh Under 21 Paul McGeown, with the help from Eimeid Murray, scored two points, and landed the ball in the back of the net after being awarded a penalty. Thomas McAlinden and Chris McGaughey added two more goals late in the second half to give Sarsfields a comfortable victory with final score Sarsfields 3-13 Tir na nOg 0-9.
