The Sarsfields Reserve team won their fourth consecutive game by beating Pearse Óg on Friday evening in Armagh City. The Hoops travelled with just 17 players but the squad's strength was shown in the five point win, a game which the Highmoss led since the first minute; Sarsfields Full-Forward John Austin hit the net in the first twenty seconds of the game.
Sarsfields led by three at half-time and a goal in the first minute of the second half, put them six points clear. Conor Scullion pounced onto a Gary Creaney flick through and finished in style.
The City side fought back, closing the gap to three points, but the Hoops showed great character with points from Brendan Coleman, Conor Creaney and Stefan Greene.
A mention should go to the defensive unit, especially Kevin McAlinden, Fionntán Coleman and Neil McCann who had excellent games, but pride of place should go to Vincent McAlinden at midfield who took several midfield catches at crucial times in the game.
Manager Nigel Austin was delighted with the win, commenting on the workrate, heart and desire of the team, but is not satisfied yet. He now eyes a top-four finish which would secure a League Semi-Final place.
