Thursday 25 Aug at 7.00pm for U14 to Minor

Lurgan Rugby club’s youth development officer Johnny Gillespie will oversee a coaching session with the Sarsfields U16 team this Thursday night at 7.00pm. Johnny will be making an appearance as an invited guest of the U16 management team, and the session will last about an hour.

With the Rugby World Cup starting next month, the young Sarsfields lads can learn more about the game of rugby which can, in turn, develop and increase their skill levels in Gaelic Games. The club is delighted that Johnny is taking time to coach the boys in what is a fantastic sport. Both football codes compliment each other”.

“Michael McCrory one of our players, plays at Pollock Park with the Lurgan Under 16’s and the coaching he has been given there certainly has enhanced his performances on the Gaelic pitch”.

The management team of the Sarsfields Under 16’s would encourage all the youth coaches and players from U14 through to Minor to attend on the night for what should be a very worthwhile experience. Local strength and conditioning coach Tommy Stevenson has expressed an interest in attending the event from which he believes he can pick up new ideas.

Current Irish International Tommy Bowe was a Gaelic footballer in his native county Monaghan and Armagh defender Aaron Kernan had a spell with Banbridge Rugby club. Other notable dualists include Ulster and Ireland legend Willie Anderson who lined out for Derry club Loup. Perhaps the Sarsfields will have a future international star in their ranks.
