Sarsfields opted to hold their presentation night in the Bay Hall and that proved to be a very convenient and popular choice for those attending. Having been treated to a superb meal by Pauline Skelton and her team of local helpers it was time for the awards. Peadar Murray from the Armagh County Board was delighted to come along and present the awards.
Peadar commented that it was great to see Sarsfields continue to represent North Armagh in the Senior league and championship and in boxing terms the Highmoss for a small rural club have punched above their weight.
Peadar presented Brian Lavery and Kieran McAlinden with the Senior League Shield before presenting the senior team with their medals.
The award winners were as follows
Senior Player of the Year – Darran McAvoy
Young Player of the Year – Ruari McKernan
Ladies Player of the Year – Brenda Shanks
Young Ladies Player of the Year – Niamh Robinson
Darran McAvoy was a very popular choice for the Senior Player of the Year having made several very important and influential saves throughout the season and he undoubtedly inspired the Highmoss to win a few matches that they could so easily have lost.
Darran was presented with the Kieran McGurk Perpetual Trophy by Ryan McGurk.
Ryan also presented a painting of his father Kieran to the club. Sarsfields Chairman thanked Martin McAlinden and family for their generosity in obtaining the framed portrait for the club and said that this painting would take pride of place in the clubhouse. The painting had been painted by Martin’s brother in law Adrian McGuckian and it was greatly admired by everyone at the awards night.
