Sarsfields GFC vs Glenullin GAC
Quinn’s Corner Ulster Club Senior Football League Play Offs
Sunday 16th March 2014
Sarsfields Armagh 0-9  Glenullin Derry 1-07

This match was played on a dry Sunday Morning at Derrytrasna with a strong wind blowing down the pitch from the road goals end.  The game was the epitome of the “game of two halves” with Glenullin being in complete control until half time and Sarsfields taking charge in the second half.
Glenullin played with the wind in the first half and made good use of the long ball into rampant full forward Eoin Bradley.  After just two minutes, Bradley was through for what looked to be a certain goal, only to be denied by Sarsfields keeper Darren McAvoy who deflected the ball over the bar for a Glenullin point.  Glenullin added two more points from great long range efforts by Dermot O’Kane and Neil McNicholl before Sarsfields opened their scoring with a point from a Niall Kerr free on 10 minutes.  The following 10 minutes were almost total dominance by Glenullin with two pointed frees from Bradley and McNicholl before Eoin Bradley finished a counter attack from a Sarsfields free with a good goal.  Score at 20 minutes Glenullin 1-6, Sarsfields 0-1.  The tactical move of the match was the moving of Sarsfields Paul Magee to full back to mark Eoin Bradley and amazingly Glenullin did not score again for the next 43 minutes of play.  Johnnie Reynolds added a Sarsfields point from a free to leave the half time score Glenullin 1-6, Sarsfields 0-2.
With the wind advantage in the second half, Sarsfields enjoyed as much control of the game as Glenullin had in the first half.  Sarsfields forward Thomas McAlinden opened the scoring with three great points in the first 8 minutes before Johnnie Reynolds scored a long free on 15 minutes.  Glenullin seemed to have lost confidence at this stage with a bad wide from an easy free taken by Eoin Bradley.  Sarsfields followed with points from Darragh O’Hanlon, Thomas McAlinden and Johnnie Reynolds to leave the score all square at 1-6 to 9 points at the end of normal time.  Three exciting minutes of added time ended with Glenullin’s Dermot O’Kane scoring the winning point to give the visitors the narrowest of victories.
This was an exciting, keenly fought contest, victory could have gone to either team and Sarsfields were unlucky to lose in the final minute of play.

Sarsfields scores: Thomas McAlinden 0-4, Johnnie Reynolds 0-3, Niall Kerr 0-1, Darragh O’Hanlon 0-1.

Glenullin scores: Eoin Bradley 1-2, Neil McNicholl 0-2, Dermot O’Kane 0-2, Brian Mullan 0-1.
