Sunday 22nd June, Pearse Óg’s pitch

Final Score Pearse Óg’s 3-12 Sarsfields 3-15

With Sarsfields having lost only their second match so far, this match proved to be a very exciting and equally challenged League game, on a bright Sunday afternoon. Straight from the throw in, Sarsfields gained possession and corner forward Johnny Reynolds quickly had the ball in the back of the net in the opening minute. The Óg’s Conor “Shorty” Clarke soon got the home side within one point with two frees until the Pearse Óg’s full forward and Shorty Clarke added two goals in succession to put the home side ahead 2-2 to 1-1 in the first ten minutes. Kevin O’Hagan helped the Hoops by setting up Paul McGeown for a 20m free and with Chris McGaughey giving Sarsfields their second goal it was again up to Pearse Óg’s Shorty Clarke to bring the sides level with five minutes until the half time whistle. Again, Chris McGaughey was on goal side only to be denied by an impressive save from the Óg’s goalkeeper and with Colin Stevenson and Kevin O’Hagan adding more points from play the home side was down at half time Pearse Óg’s 2-3 Sarsfields 2-8.

The second half proved to be another closely contended thirty minutes, with two goals and sixteen points shared among both teams. Sarsfields’ Paul McGeown scored the first point of the half and two points were scored from both sides before Clarke found the corner of the net to reduce their half time gap down to one point. High Moss men Darragh O’Hanlon and Johnny Reynolds added three points to the visiting side before Thomas McAlinden shot the ball past the keeper’s hands to put Sarsfields seven points ahead in the last ten minutes. The remaining minutes were nerve-wracking for any Sarsfields supporter as The Óg’s fought back to score five unanswered points leaving Sarsfields ahead with final score Pearse Óg’s 3-12 Sarsfields 3-15.
