Ballymacnab 1-13 Sarsfields 1-03

Sarsfields are out of the U21 Championship after a poor showing in Ballymacnab. Really the Highmoss forward line couldn't get the breaks and this was illustrated by the fact that the forward line accounted for a total of two points against a goal and a point from the half back line. Playing into a strong breeze a point from Aaron McGaughey and a superb 25th minute goal from Stefan Green had put Sarsfields level and into what seemed to be a great position. However the home side closed out the half with five unanswered points.

Despite being six points down it would have been reasonable to think that Sarsfields could claw their way back into the match in a wind assisted second half. Early in the second half though, Ballymacnab hit a goal and a point without reply and when Eimeíd Murray received a second yellow card, the game was up for Sarsfields. Ballymacnab dropped men back and Sarsfields could not get the scores. As it was the Highmoss could only manage one second half point, though some heroic defending saw Sarsfields hold the home side to a single point for the final twenty minutes of the match. In particular Ruairí McKernan stood out in defence, though all the defenders deserve a special mention.
