Sarsfields 2-07 Granemore 3-10

For most of this match Sarsfields looked a team that hadn’t played a game for almost eight weeks. Granemore got off to a great start with two early points and Ciaran Kerr had to make an excellent diving save to deny Granemore a goal, though in the subsequent clearance the ball was touched on the ground and Granemore scored the resulting penalty. Dominating the match, Granemore had 1-06 on the board before a Richie Stevenson free got Sarsfields off the mark. Johnny Reynolds quickly added the first point from play but any notion of a first half revival was quickly snuffed out by a further 1-03 from Granemore. To be fair the Granemore goal was a superb effort completely taking out the Highmoss defence. Paul McGaughey saw a goal chance skim the post and Eamon McGeown pulled a point back but Sarsfields were twelve points behind at the break.

A better second half saw Sarsfields hit 1-02 without reply, the goal coming from a penalty. The keeper denied Eamon McGeown with the shot but Eamon was alert enough to score the rebound. Again a Granemore goal dashed any hopes the Sarsfields men might have had, though Sarsfields responded well with a second goal from Eamon McGeown. Paul McGaughey and Eamon McGeown added points but the losing margin of six points didn’t really reflect the nature of this crushing defeat.
