Maghery 1-10 Sarsfields 2-08

This was a perfect evening for football, but Sarsfields made a less than perfect start in this match. Maghery dominant in midfield pushed ahead and midway through the first half had hit six points without reply. Sarsfields however came back into the match as Paul McGaughey and Brian Lavery gained a foothold in midfield. This Highmoss possession was reflected on the scoreboard and with five minutes of the half remaining Sarsfields had pulled level thanks to a goal and three points from the boot of Richie Stevenson. Maghery tagged on a point to lead at the break.

In a very exciting second half it was point for point and with five minutes remaining there was nothing separating the sides. The best of the Sarsfields points coming from debutant Stefan Green. Paul Hughes was denied a goal when the Maghery keeper made a superb save pushing his shot on to the crossbar. Moments later Maghery had the goal in the Highmoss net thanks to a cruel deflection. Leading by three with little time remaining it looked like this would be another defeat for Sarsfields. However the Highmos narrowed the gap to two points. Despite Maghery having moved Stefan Forker out to midfield Sarsfields were still able to gain possession and Brian Lavery in excellent form sent a high ball into the square. Eimeid Murray who had just come on rose highest to punch the ball to the Maghery net and push Sarsfields into a one point lead. Sarsfields held on for a win that crucially took them out of the relegation zone. This was a result built on a solid midfield performance.
