Sarsfields 2-06 Corrinshego 1-07
Sarsfields got off to a great start with Ryan McAlinden hitting a first minute goal after good work from Niall Kerr. Niall Kerr quickly added a point but Sarsfields found scores difficult to come by as Corrinshego began to take a firm grip on the game. Corrinshego may well have edged ahead but were denied by a superb save from Conor McMahon. The visitors did however grab a late first half goal to lead at the break. On the restart Corrinshego hit the first point and it wasn’t looking good for the Highmoss considering they hadn’t scored for twenty minutes. The breakthrough came with a great long ball in front of Ryan McAlinden and he took the correct option of controlling the ball soccer style and beating the keeper. Corrinshego pulled level but it was the home side who were having the better of the exchanges.
Niall Kerr pointed a free and put a free into Gareth McGeown for another point. Gareth added a second point then Niall Kerr added a slick point after himself and Gareth McGeown combined superbly to ease through the Corrinshego defence.
Sarsfields were now deservedly leading by four points. Corrinshego pulled it back to three points but Niall Kerr landed an excellent free from the 45m line to restore the four point lead. The scorers can claim some credit, but importantly the Highmoss defence held firm as the visitors came at them trying to close the gap. As time ran out it was clear Corrinshego would need a goal to have a chance but the Highmoss defence prevailed. Two points closed the gap but Sarsfields held out to win by two with their superb second half performance.
